Sonaforms™
Sonaforms were conceived in 2023 by founder, Dr Julie Freeman, when commissioned to make a series of human-scale sonic sculptures by Modern Art Oxford. Working in the shadow of the covid pandemic, Julie responded to the need for recovery and reconnection through tactility, inventing an innovative method to emit sound through organically shaped, touchable wooden forms.
Through observing visitors of all ages climbing on, holding, and feeling the vibrations of audio through their body, Julie saw the potential for the work to have life beyond the gallery. Further research into material-borne sound propagation led Julie to collaborate more deeply with professional furniture makers, refining the design into what are now Sonaforms: elegant sonic furniture with expertly-composed Sonascapes.
Sonascapes™
Our Sonascapes use science-led sonic design, including layers of beneficial frequencies. The vibrational effect sooths and recalibrates.
Sonascapes range from ambient calming rhythms to sonic journeys composed from nature-based field recordings. Further available options include
music, voices, family heartbeats or vehicles
real-time or archival data driven compositions, ie stock market prices, environmental sensors, or organisational activity
